General Motors has had a very long presence in India, close to 10 years I think  – first with GM Opal cars and then with the Chevy series. But the GM diet has been popular with the Indians even before the GM Cars. If you do some simple Google searches, you will find out that there is a lot of interest and a lot of people searching for GM Diet Indian and Vegetarian versions.

So why the rush of people searching for the GM Diet/General Motors diet ?  Simple: It works. The diet plan is both vegetarian and uses only food items that an Indian can identify with.

While the diet is mostly vegetarian – maybe 90% vegetarian, it goes off track for a vegetarian on day 5 – with its predominant Beef diet. If you are a vegan/vegetarian – substitute Beef with Dhal/Lentils/Garbanzo/CheckPeas/Chana – basically, any kind of beans/legumes are good – idea is to consume something with lots of protein and fiber.

But watch out – do not overdo the beans since you are on a diet – you could run into constipation problems.   Always combine vegetables with Dal/Beans so that the food moves through and always remember to consume lots of water.
